Cura Hospitality is proud to support the communities we serve, including the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden (Baden, Pennsylvania.) On Saturday, September 19, Cura sponsored and prepared Faith, Field, and Feast, the Sisters’ annual celebration of farm-fresh foods and community.
Proceeds from the event support the Sisters’ community gardens, apiary and henhouse, as well as Sister St. Mark Garden Fund partners that provide donations to area food banks.
More than 180 guests gathered for an evening celebrating fresh, locally sourced ingredients, many harvested directly from the Sisters’ own gardens.
The Cura dining team began the evening with an abundant charcuterie display, followed by a menu featuring braised beef with smashed red potatoes, roasted pork tenderloin with glazed apples, Asian slaw with grilled chicken, and roasted butternut squash with vegan yogurt.
Local sourcing was at the heart of the menu. Meats came from Milk House Meats in Beaver Falls and Henry’s Meat Market in Cranberry Township, while apples from Soergel Orchards in Wexford were transformed into fresh apple chutney. Even the honey came close to home, sourced directly from Sister Lyn Szymkiewicz’s beehive.
Fresh zucchini, squash, snacking peppers, cherry tomatoes and herbs, including rosemary, thyme, mint and basil, were grown in the Motherhouse Twin Trinity Garden.
It doesn’t get much more local than that.
Special recognition goes to Sisters Director of Dining Services Nikki Evans; cooks Brian Davies, Daniel Campbell and Jesse Householder; Food Service Workers Patti Grimes and Rosa Morengo; Cura District Support Chef Jackie Gonzalez; Longwood at Oakmont Chef Matthew Parkins; and Cura District Manager Bill Dalesandro for bringing their culinary talent and dedication to this meaningful evening!
Together, the Sisters of St. Joseph and Cura demonstrated how thoughtfully prepared food can do more than bring people around the table. It can nourish communities, support local partners and help extend care to neighbors in need!
