Cura Manages New Pub at Phoebe Berks; Engages Residents with Pub-Fare Menu

Older adults can now enjoy their favorite brew, tavern fare food, and engage with friends at ‘The Pub’ managed by Cura Hospitality at Phoebe Berks, a senior living community in Wernersville, PA.  The Pub offers a full wine list, or residents can order a refreshing cold brew, or mixed drink, and select from made-to-order foods prepared by Cura!

Pub-style dining is trending in senior living communities, where baby boomers and older adults may continue to frequent their favorite “watering hole” – right on campus while engaging with friends and family!  Phoebe created this new dining venue with a full liquor license and turned to their dining partner Cura to drive the food and spirits experience.   Cura designed the customized Phoebe Berks-specific pub-style menu based on popular foods and local favorites including soups and salads topped with grilled chicken or shrimp; fresh pub burgers; Yuengling beer battered haddock, sidewinder fries; desserts, and more!  Cura’s signature spices were used as much as possible to create a unique dining experience.

“Pub style and casual dining is increasing in popularity for older adult communities.  Our goal was to create a safe and convenient space for our residents to stop in for a drink and enjoy pub food,” says Donna Schudel, community relations and grants specialist for Phoebe Ministries.   Close to the pool table and game room across the hall, the much-anticipated Pub will be a hub of activity for Berks residents and their guests!   “Residents can sit at the bar, or at a table where they will be served by Cura’s waitstaff.   It’s a great way to meet up with friends and family where all can enjoy a casual atmosphere,” she adds.

Cura is a trendsetter, supporting and advising communities like Phoebe on how to best serve baby boomers — creating dining experiences that residents were accustomed to prior to moving to a senior living community.

According to Colene Doughty, District Manager for Cura, “Our goal is to partner with administrators to help design customized menus and hospitality strategies that appeal to older adults in the communities we serve.  As these Baby Boomers age, they expect a new worldliness and desire for food, beverage, and service options beyond the traditional dining room.”

Residents were invited to a grand opening on Thursday, March 9th, where they celebrated with a ‘complimentary’ champagne toast to the new ‘Pub’, followed by a spin-the-wheel game where residents could win a free drink and dessert coupons!

The Pub is open Thursday and Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. for food

The bar is open Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Thank you to our team at Phoebe Berks: Jessica Pettie CDM, CFPP, general manager; Meghan Moffett, restaurant manager; Colene Doughty, district manager; Nate Phillips, sous chef; and Eric Schocket, executive chef.
